Product detailed description

templetool

The TEMPLE TOOL Ryoba Double Edge R-180 is a compact Japanese pull saw designed for very fine, accurate cuts in wood. Thanks to its narrow, flexible blade and double edge with dedicated tooth patterns for ripping and crosscutting, it delivers clean, precise results with less effort than a traditional European saw.

This Japanese pull saw has a unique tooth pattern on the rip cutting edge. Near the handle the blade starts with 11 TPI and then gradually transitions toward the tip into a coarser 7 TPI. This smooth progression supports an easy and controlled start to the cut, then faster and more efficient material removal as you work deeper. In the Ryoba saw from TEMPLE TOOL, Western and Japanese craftsmanship meet. You get the performance and reliability of high end tools combined with refined design.

Durable Japanese steel

The blade is made from high quality Japanese steel that holds a sharp edge for a long time. This material choice ensures clean, accurate cuts in both softwood and hardwood and reduces the need for frequent blade changes. The replaceable blade design lets you restore like new cutting performance without having to buy a whole new saw.

Made in Japan

Each saw is handcrafted in a historic Japanese city by experienced artisans with more than 100 years of hand saw making tradition. This long standing know how is reflected in honest craftsmanship, consistent quality, and carefully finished details. These saws are renowned worldwide for their precision and extremely sharp teeth, so you can rely on repeatable, professional results.

Premium components

The saw features a dark brown solid wood handle made from Wingnut, a member of the walnut family. It sits comfortably in the hand and provides a secure grip for precise control over each cut. Brass fittings and a high carbon steel blade are complemented by the stylish dark wooden handle with a Western inspired look, which gives the tool both a professional appearance and long term durability.

Nokogiri 鋸

Nokogiri are specialist Japanese saws widely used throughout Southeast Asia. Unlike European saws, they are designed to cut on the pull stroke rather than by pushing away from you. This approach significantly reduces physical effort and helps you guide the blade with high accuracy. Because the blade of a Japanese pull saw is tensioned during the cut, it does not buckle easily and is simple to keep on a straight line. This makes it ideal for detailed work and precise joinery.

Ryoba

Ryoba is a double edged saw with two different cutting edges in one tool. The yokobiki edge is designed for crosscutting across the grain, while the tatebiki edge is intended for rip cuts parallel to the grain. This combination makes the Ryoba an excellent choice for carpentry and fine woodworking, where you often need to switch between rip and crosscuts without changing tools.

Why choose a pull saw?

Unlike European saws, Japanese saws are designed to cut on the pull stroke. This cutting action requires less force, gives you more control, and lets you create clean and precise cuts. The iconic narrow, flexible blade of Japanese saws also resists twisting when used in a pulling motion, so your cut remains straight and predictable. Most Japanese hand saws feature a deeper blade profile and high tooth density, which makes them ideal not only for fine detail work but also for accurate joinery and finishing.
