templetool

The TEMPLE TOOL Kataba Japanese pull saw is a professional joinery tool designed for fast, deep and accurate cuts in heavy beams, boards and planks. Its 0.6 mm thin blade carries 141 large, razor sharp teeth that cut on the pull stroke, so you work with less effort and maintain excellent control. With a 265 mm blade length and 14.4 TPI, it delivers clean, precise cuts that are ideal for both construction timber and finer woodworking tasks.

Durable Japanese steel

The blade is made from high quality Japanese steel that holds its edge for a long time, which means fewer blade changes and consistently reliable performance. It delivers clean and accurate cuts in both softwood and hardwood, so it is suitable for a wide range of carpentry and joinery applications.

Made in Japan

Each saw is handcrafted in a historic Japanese town by experienced artisans with more than 100 years of hand saw making tradition. This heritage of honest craftsmanship, history and quality is reflected in every detail. Saws made in this way are known worldwide for their precision and incredibly sharp teeth, which provide smooth cutting and excellent control.

Premium components

The saw features a dark brown solid wood handle made from Wingnut, a species related to walnut, which offers a comfortable and secure grip. Brass components add durability and a refined look. The high carbon steel blade is paired with the dark wooden handle and brass Western style fittings to create a tool that combines performance with attractive design.

Nokogiri 鋸

Nokogiri are specialist Japanese saws used throughout Southeast Asia. Unlike European saws, they are designed primarily to cut on the pull stroke rather than by pushing away from you. This pull action is more efficient, requires less effort from the craftsperson and provides very accurate cutting. Because the blade of a Japanese pull saw is loaded in tension as you pull, it does not buckle while cutting, which makes it easy to guide along a straight line and maintain control even in deeper cuts.

Kataba

The Kataba is a saw with a long single sided blade and a short spine that allows deep cuts into the material. Thanks to the thicker blade it is much more rigid, which reduces deflection and makes it ideal for heavier duty work where stability, control and cutting depth are important.

Why choose a pull saw

Japanese saws are designed for cutting on the pull stroke, unlike European saws that cut mainly on the push. This cutting action requires less effort and allows you to make accurate, clean and precise cuts with improved control. The iconic narrow, flexible blade of a Japanese saw remains stable when it is pulled, so your cut stays perfectly straight. Most Japanese hand saws have a taller blade profile and a very high tooth count, which makes them ideal tools not only for fine tuning details on your projects but also for demanding joinery work.
