Durable Japanese steel

The blade is made from high quality Japanese steel that holds its edge for a long time and resists wear. You get consistently clean, accurate cuts in both softwood and hardwood, which saves time on finishing and improves the quality of your joinery.

Made in Japan

Each blade is hand crafted in a historic Japanese town by experienced artisans with more than 100 years of hand saw making tradition. This method of production reflects a legacy of honest craftsmanship, respect for history and an uncompromising approach to quality. Japanese saws produced in this way are known worldwide for exceptional precision and incredibly sharp teeth that work smoothly through the material.

Premium components

The complete TEMPLE TOOL Kataba Universal saw combines this high carbon steel blade with a dark brown solid wood handle made from Wingnut, a member of the walnut family, and brass components. The result is a stylish Western inspired design that not only looks premium but also sits comfortably in the hand and gives you precise control over every cut.

Nokogiri 鋸

Nokogiri are traditional Japanese saws used throughout Southeast Asia. Unlike European saws, they are designed primarily to cut on the pull stroke rather than pushing away from you. This cutting technique provides very high accuracy and requires less effort from the craftsperson, especially during long work sessions. Because the teeth of Japanese saws are loaded in tension during the pull stroke, they do not buckle or wander, which makes it easy to follow a straight cutting line.

Kataba

Kataba is a saw type with a long single sided blade and a short spine, which allows deep, long cuts without the limit of a supporting back. Thanks to the thicker blade it is more rigid and therefore ideal for heavier duty work where stability and straight guidance are essential.

Why choose a pull saw

Japanese saws, unlike European ones, are made to cut on the pull stroke. This cutting method requires less effort and lets you make accurate, clean and precise cuts, which is especially important for detailed joinery and visible surfaces. The iconic narrow, flexible blade of Japanese saws does not twist during the pull motion, so your cut stays perfectly straight from start to finish. The deeper blade profile and very high tooth density of most Japanese hand saws make them ideal not only for fine tuning details on your projects but also for demanding, long cuts.
